Cala Major is the name of a suburb in the city of Palma situated on a lake on a small bay in the southwest region of the Balearic Island. Cala Majoris is also located in the southwestern part of the administrative capital. In 1981, a Catalan painter Joan Miró and his wife Pilar Juncosa founded the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca in their hometown, Cala major. In 1992, the Foundation received its new headquarters designed by architect Rafael Moneo.
